Reno Tahoe Geo Associates, Inc. (RTGeo) - formerly MDA - has worked on residential, commercial and industrial projects large and small. We have worked with individual owners, contractors, real estate & development companies, architectural, structural & multi-disciplinary engineering firms, and regulatory, City, County, State & federal agencies. Below are just a few featured projects we have worked on.
Alder Creek Nordic Center, Truckee, CA
Tahoe Donner's Alder Creek Nordic Adventure Center was constructed at the Cross Country/Equestrian Center Facility. For this undertaking, the previous Cross Country Ski Lodge and Hay Barn was redesigned and expanded to include additional services, facilities and parking. MDA provided geotechnically, wetland and civil consultation services throughout the completion of the project.
Shaw Construction Company; Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center
We provided materials testing and construction observation services for construction of 2 single-story concrete buildings on Alexandria Court in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center located in McCarran, Nevada. This included structural steel and welding inspection, concrete inspection and testing, retrieval and lab testing of concrete cylinder samples, field density testing of native soil subgrades, engineered fill, trench backfill, pavement subgrades, and aggregate baserock, and laboratory testing of soil samples for classification and determination of maximum density.
Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort; Ritz Carlton Highlands
This project is the centerpiece of the $350 million Highlands Project at the Northstar-at-Tahoe resort. The project includes a steel framed, six-story, 173 room ski-in, ski-out resort hotel structure, with a 20,000-square foot spa and attached three level parking structure. We provided preliminary and final geotechnical investigations and fault investigation for the Mid-mountain area of Northstar Village. MDA served as owners’ representative to provide construction observation and materials testing. MDA provided both materials testing and construction inspection for rockery and MSE walls, reinforcing steel/pre-stressed (PT) concrete, fireproofing inspection, high strength bolting, and visual, (NDT) ultrasonic and magnetic particle welding inspections of the building structure. Our team of experts worked rotating 24-hour shifts for almost 3 months. We provided all construction quality control services under severe weather conditions.
Cities of Reno-Sparks; Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility
A nutrient recovery plant expansion was constructed at the south side of the existing Reno-Sparks water reclamation facility. The new building is 47 feet in height to accommodate reactor and silo vessels, with concrete slab-on-grade floors and conventional shallow footings.
Bijou Erosion Control Project
The Bijou Erosion Control Project was a multi-agency effort to protect water quality of Lake Tahoe through infrastructure improvements in the Bijou Creek Watershed. MDA’s geotechnical investigation consisted of 5 hollow-stem-auger borings with monitoring well installation in the commercial core, and 5 hollow-stem and hand auger borings in the upland infiltration sites. Exploration also included shear-wave velocity surveys and percolation tests. Design features included the recommendation for commercial core facilities to be able to accommodate potentially liquefaction after earthquakes, overexcavation to remove unsuitable foundation soils, and issues related to excavation and dewatering.
Truckee River Bike Trail Rehabilitation
The Truckee River Bike Trail runs from Tahoe City and Squaw Valley Road in Placer County, California. This Rehabilitation Project involved developing repaving recommendations for the Truckee-Tahoe bicycle/pedestrian trail. We provided a design level geotechnical investigation for this project. The purpose of this investigation was to explore and evaluate the subsurface conditions of the proposed alignment and to provide our geotechnical engineering recommendations for project design and construction. A detailed analysis was performed to assess protection of shallow-buried concrete sewer pipe from likely construction equipment loads to provide for constructability while developing safety specifications acceptable to the sewer agency.

We provided Materials Testing and Special Inspections for the proposed Boutique to be located on the bottom floor of The Montage in Downtown Reno, NV.
Dollar Tree in Fallon, NV
We have provided construction inspection and testing services for several Dollar Tree stores including this one in Fallon, Nevada.
