Detailed Position Summary

Reno Tahoe Geo Associates, Inc. has an immediate opening for an ICC Special Inspector & Engineering Technician. This position will perform special inspection and materials testing duties in accordance with project plans, specifications, and jurisdictional requirements.

 

The ICC Special Inspector & Engineering Technician will be based in our Reno, Nevada office and will support projects throughout Reno, the Lake Tahoe Basin, and occasional rural Northern Nevada locations.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform special inspection and materials testing in accordance with project plans, specifications, and jurisdiction codes.

  • Check materials and procedures for compliance with plans and specifications.

  • Apply specialized technical knowledge to evaluate engineering and construction conditions.

  • Prepare complete and legible reports, including Daily Field Reports, and submit reports on a daily basis.

 

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience in materials testing, construction observation, or a related field.

  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing.

 

Preferred Qualifications

The following certifications and experience are preferred but not required:

  • ICC Soils Special Inspector certification.

  • ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector certification.

  • ICC Prestressed Concrete Special Inspector certification.

  • ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector certification.

  • ICC Spray Applied Fireproofing Special Inspector certification.

  • ICC Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector certification.

  • ICC Structural Steel and Welding Special Inspector certification.

  • ICC Residential Building Inspector certification.

  • ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector certification.

  • OSHA 10-hour certification.

  • ACI Grade 1 Concrete Field Testing Technician certification.

  • Nuclear density gauge certification.

  • NAQTC Aggregate, Sampling & Density, and Asphalt certifications.

  • Soils and concrete laboratory testing experience.

 

Job Type

This position is full-time. 

 

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

This position requires field work on active construction sites and will involve working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Candidates must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, and safely navigate uneven terrain. The role will also require lifting and carrying field equipment and driving to project sites throughout Reno, the Lake Tahoe Basin, and occasional rural Northern Nevada locations.

Staff Engineer 1 - E.I.T.

Job Description

Reno Tahoe Geo Associates, Inc. has an immediate opening for a full time Staff Engineer 1 - E.I.T.  to join its team.

Main Responsibilities 

​

  • Applies specialized technical knowledge to understand engineering problems, consider alternatives, and develop feasible plans that are cost effective and environmentally acceptable.

  • Performs specialized engineering and geologic analyses related to foundation design, wall design, slope stability, geologic hazards evaluation, geologic mapping research, site grading, drainage, surface hydrology, water supply, and onsite disposal, shoreline protection, materials engineering, forensic investigations, etc.

  • May act as Project Manager for small and/or relatively simple projects, managing all aspects of the project including engineering activities, scheduling, designs, plans, specifications, technical tests or studies, and billings.

  • Performs or assists in geotechnical field investigations, including monitoring/observing test drilling and sampling; logging test borings, and test pits; classifying soil types and consistency, and preparing field reports summarizing geotechnical field activities and site descriptions.

 

​Qualifications

​

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or equivalent. 

  • Possesses Engineering-in-Training and is advancing toward registration as a Professional Engineer in California and/or Nevada.

  • Developing an ability to read construction plans.  Knowledge of computerized drafting (AutoCAD) and data management.

  • Must be well organized and able to monitor at least two projects concurrently. 

  • Ability to apply fundamental and diversified professional engineering concepts, theories, and practices to achieve engineering objectives.  Possess initiative, resourcefulness and motivation in solving complicated and perplexing problems under varying and sometimes adverse conditions.

  • Must possess good communication and human relation skills to work with public, government agency personnel, technical professionals, and fellow employees.  Ability to effectively communicate technical information (orally and in writing).

  •  Must have a current DMV license and be insurable.
